Children love books! Here are some quick and easy ideas to use at home with your kindergartener to encourage his/her enthusiasm and curiosity about reading. |
Family Mailboxes
Each family member creates
a homemade personal mailbox labeled with his or her name. The
'mailbox' is placed outside each person's bedroom door. Parents
begin the letter writing experience by writing a letter to the
children and placing it in their mailbox. Important
rule: when
you get a letter you must respond to it. Don't forget to write
in your letters questions that need responses. Example: What
would you like for breakfast tomorrow?

I Spy Game During dinner, during
a car drive, during takinck play the familiar 'I Spy' game with
a beginning sound or letter as the clue. Example: I spy something
that begins with the letter 'm'.
Take turns.
