Dear District 39 Families,

From our teams here in District 39, we hope you and your family are enjoying a happy, restful and safe spring break! School resumes on Tuesday, April 6.

As we enjoy spring break, we encourage everyone to continue to practice the 3Ws. Wearing a mask, watching your distance from individuals outside your household, and washing your hands is critical to our ongoing success in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. Maintaining these healthy habits helps to keep our families and communities safe. As we celebrate spring break and our communities open for increased activities, practicing the 3Ws remains critical to our ongoing health, wellness and success.

As you prepare for a return to school on Tuesday, April 6, below are a few reminders.

Spring Break
School resumes for all students on Tuesday, April 6. Monday April 5 will be an all staff onsite ISBE planning day. Our school nurse offices will be open on Monday, April 5 to review any messages and address any questions you may have returning to school after spring break in order to help support families.

Covid-19 PCR Testing
Anyone traveling over break to an orange state or internationally must complete a diagnostic PCR test. FREE PCR testing is available through the Township Covid-19 PCR April testing program this weekend. Information regarding this and other PCR testing locations is available through the D39 COVID Testing webpage and on pages 18-21 of the D39 Family Response to Illness Booklet. Families who have traveled must adhere to testing and quarantine recommendations. For the most up-to-date recommendations on returning from travel, please review the CCDPH travel guidance for domestic travel and CDC for international travel. PCR testing is also recommended for anyone who has experienced symptoms of or possible exposure to Covid-19.

SafeGuard Program
District 39’s SafeGuard saliva collection will occur on Monday morning, April 5th 8:00 am - 9:00 am at each school. Samples may also be dropped off at the district office (MEC, 615 Locust Ave) on Sunday afternoon through Monday morning at 9:00 am. SafeGuard provides weekly screening to help identify and isolate Covid-19, reduce the need for quarantines, further mitigate the risk of exposure, and maintain a healthy school environment for all. However, Safeguard does not replace the requirement for PCR testing for those who have traveled, who have experienced possible exposure to Covid-19 or who are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19. Please visit the D39 COVID Testing webpage to learn more about the district’s Safeguard program as well as diagnostic PCR testing options. The district’s SafeGuard Program has been extended through the end of April. If you have not done so already, you may still register your child to participate beginning April 12.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership as we work together as a community to support healthy and safe school envirionments. We hope you continue to enjoy a wonderful spring break!
