Entering PD Activities Into ELIS
Applying for an Endorsement in ELIS
Professional Development Requirements
120 hours of PD per 5-year renewal cycle, beginning with your first FULL 5-year renewal cycle after July 1, 2014
No reductions in hours based upon holding advanced degrees (e.g. master's), beginning July 1, 2014.
Your first renewal after July 1, 2014 will be pro-rated to reflect a combination of the old rules (pre-July 1) and the new rules.
CPDUs are phasing out; hours are actual hours of engagement
The ELIS system should provide you with an actual personalized calculation of how many hours you need (it's pro-rated to reflect the old requirement/reductions)
Teachers who hold an Admin Endorsement
If you have an admin endorsement and are NOT working in a position that requires an admin endorsement then you MUST complete one Illinois Administrator Academy (IAA) in each 5-year cycle beginning with your FIRST FULL 5-year cycle (after July 1, 2014)
IAA hours count towards your teacher PD hours
Example: your current license expires in 2016. Your FIRST FULL 5-year cycle will be 2016-2021. You don't have to worry about IAA until after 2016 (anything before 2016 would not meet the requirement)
So, unless you have a license that expires in 2019, you are not yet in your FIRST FULL 5-year cycle
School Service Personnel
Holding an IDFPR license meets the renewal requirements
If you don't hold an IDFPR license, then you must meet the teacher PD requirement of 120 hours, beginning with the first FULL 5-year renewal cycle after July 1, 2014
Prior to your first FULL 5-year renewal cycle, you can use IDFPR or ASHA license to meet the PD requirement. Otherwise, you will need 64 hours of PD.
SLP with teacher endorsement are subject to the Teacher PD requirements
National Board (NBPTS) License
If your NBPTS is valid then you need 60 hours of PD in your first FULL 5-year renewal cycle after July 1, 2014
Once your NBPTS is no longer valid then it is removed from your license and you must meet the Teacher PD
If you were not employed as a teacher (e.g. on a full year's leave of absence, working as a paraprofessional) during any semester of the validity period of your license, you can reduce your PD requirements by marking your license as "inactive' for those semesters. Simply log into ELIS and select the "Click Here to Update Your PD/Employment Status" under the yellow box on the upper left hand side of the screen.
WARNING! Any PD hours already earned MUST be entered by December 31, 2014.
Now is the time to log your prior PD.
ALERT! Beginning January 1, 2015 you will be required to enter PD
within 60 days of the conclusion of the activity.
