Health – Pediculosis (Head Lice)

In an effort to eliminate pediculosis (lice), the Superintendent shall direct ongoing District-wide parent(s)/guardian(s), student and staff education in the identification and control of lice.

If the presence of live lice or nits is observed, those infested shall be excluded from school until successfully treated. A parent/guardian whose child is infested shall be asked to come to the school and take the child home. At that time, the parent(s)/guardian(s) shall be given instruction and guidance regarding treatment and prevention of reinfestation. Pupils who have been excluded shall be reexamined by the health paraprofessional prior to their readmission to school. At the discretion of the Superintendent or his/her designee, a student may be excluded from school until such time as there is evidence that the student is free of nits.
